After completion of this course the participant should be able to:

1. Discuss California Minimum Standards for Infection Control for the dental office.

2. Discuss the requirements of the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Standard and know how to locate a copy of the Standard on-line.

3. Discuss the epidemiology, symptoms and modes of transmission for bloodborne diseases.

4. Discuss the basic content and purpose of the Exposure Control Plan and their rights to review and/or obtain a copy of their employer's Exposure Control Plan.

5. Identify tasks and other activities that involve exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials (OPIM).

6. Identify and utilize methods to prevent or reduce exposure including appropriate engineering controls, administrative and work practice controls and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

7. Identify types, selection of, proper use, removal, handling, decontamination and/or disposal of PPE.
